The focus of the working group is to research the interaction of psychological, somatic and social factors in the development and progression of physical complaints and diseases in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology in order to be able to consider the role of these factors in diagnostics and therapy.
Research projects on the subject of "intestinal microbiome and psyche" are currently being carried out in those affected with chronic inflammatory and functional bowel diseases. Other scientific projects deal with research into disease-related quality of life and new outpatient therapy methods. In particular, "well-directed hypnotherapy", a hypnosis specifically related to the abdomen, is being researched in groups. Research funds are constantly being raised to finance the projects and additional staff (clinical psychologists).
The aim of the working group is also to strengthen the specialist area of psychosomatic medicine in teaching (lectures, elective subject, diploma theses, dissertations (and medical training and further education.
