Hepatocellular carcinoma and complications

Our research group consists of a clinical area and a research laboratory.

The aim of the clinical research area is to contribute to the development of new therapy options for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). For this reason, we are the center of several international multi-centre phase I - IV studies in which new drugs and new therapy strategies for different HCC tumor stages are tested.

Since not all available therapy options are equally useful for all patients, we also deal with the question of the predictability of therapeutic response. In these "biomarker" studies, we cooperate closely with colleagues from radiology, (transplant) surgery, (molecular) pathology, the Borschkegasse Cancer Research Center, the renowned Center of Molecular Medicine (CEMM) and of course our own research laboratory. Other research focuses of our laboratory are mechanisms of HCC formation, with special consideration of oxidative stress and oxygen radicals.
